BRITISH MARINE EQUIPMENT COUNCIL
The British Marine Equipment Council (BMEC) is the central organisation providing facilities for four federated Trade Associations - the British Marine Equipment Association (BMEA), the British Naval Equipment Association (BNEA), the Association of British Offshore Industries (ABOI), the British Oil Spill Control Association (BOSCA), plus an affiliated Ports and Terminals Group (PTG). BMEC therefore represents suppliers of equipment, other goods and services involved with the naval and commercial shipbuilding industries, the cruise industry, the fishing industry, ports and terminals, the offshore oil and gas industries, and with the increasingly important pollution prevention, control and clean-up sector.
ROLE
It aims to promote the interests of its members both nationally and internationally and acts as the collective voice of the UK marine equipment industry when there are matters of general concern to members, lobbying Government whenever necessary. The individual Associations, whose primary role is to provide promotional and information services to assist and support the marketing operations of their members, with particular emphasis on overseas opportunities, also act as the representative voice of their particular industries when specific issues need to be raised with the respective government departments or other authoritative bodies.
